Hua Hin Day 3

Hua Hin Day 2 ...

The whole of day 2 was spend exploring and visiting places of interest and makan places highly recommended by Cleo's boss.

Lunch was at Baan Itsara, a quaint little old seafood restaurant tucked away north of Hua Hin town. Its absolutely sea facing and the food is very reasonably priced.

On one occasion when Cleo's boss was dinning there, the former Thai PM Thaksin was a few tables away...
Initially we were reluctant to eat there, thinking that it will be very pricey, but it was not. All the seafood dishes we ordered like shells, crab, squids, raw prawn salad etc, cost us less than B$1100, about S$45 only !!! But the view and atmosphere there was priceless !!!

The other place we had our dinner was Madam Green Seafood. Located near the Khao Takiap village, its almost exclusively patronised by the locals.
The walls of the restaurant was plastered with pictures of who's who's that visited this restaurant. Den brought us there....
We ordered and ate like not tomorrow !!!

Hua Hin Day 2 Morning...

We all woke to a stunning view of Hua Hin's famous beach front !!!...

After breakfast at a local coffeeshop, Den took us to the world famous Mango Sticky Rice Stall outside Hilton Hua Hin.
It was featured on national TV, many flock there to pack her dessert, including the Thai Royals, the rich and famous, and mass....
Every pack is only B$50, S$2. You can buy by the pack which contain a mango each plus the rice. Otherwise you can order the mango & rice separately by the kilos!

She is very famous for the stringent QC of the mangoes she uses and the farmers that supply her. Every mango before she skin and slice, she would cut off the tip of the fruit to taste before skinning it.
When she slices the fruit, if there are any slightest blemish inside or outside, she'll cut if off or simply discard and cut another mango. No compromise !
He sticky rice is especially fragrant !!

I waited 30mins for my 4 packet.

During peak seasons, everything will be sold out by 1pm !!...

From Hilton in downtown, we drove to the southern end of Hua Hin, to Khao Takiap and the fishing village there....

Along the way, we saw many small scale fishermen, and restaurants selling the catches from the night before.

On the mid hill of Khao (Hill) Takiap(chopsticks), we climbed the steps to reach the top, to view the whole of Hua Hin beach-front. It was simply breathtaking !

From there, we headed back to town for lunch.

From Bangkok to Hua Hin Day 1 Album

Our Day 1 trip from SIN-BKK-Hua Hin....on the 19th of Aug 2009, Wed.
After our self transfer from BKK to Sukumvit, we met our driver Den.
It was the beginning of our 3 days of fun with this very jovial man.

Hua Hin BKK 1

After 7 days on the road, I'm finally home 7 hrs ago....

It was our first to Hua Hin, thanks to Cleo's boss offer to put up at his Hua Hin 'Summer Palace'. He set up his personal driver for us, took us from BKK to Hua Hin in 3 hrs...

Spend 3 days there, our driver Den said it was too short, but we think it was fine. Maybe 1 day more would be great, but any more days thereafter would be quite boring.
Its not like Phuket or Pattaya, with loads of shopping (for us Singaporeans) or boisterous nightlife (cos HM The Thai King stays there most of the time now).... So it has to be sterile...

Attractions wise, one would cover the place in 2 days.... on the outskirt of Hua Hin...

As far as the beach is concern, it was a little disappointing. The beach is strewn with debris and discarded catches from the many nightly commercial fishermen off the shoreline...
You don't see sun-bathers or sea sports...

Last Fri, we 'checked-out' and transferred back to BKK Asia Hotel, out usual 'BKK residence'...
Was already late when we reach BKK, rendevous with Julian & Pris and headed to Yaowarat for dinner...
The rest of the days were the usual shopping, daily doses of Thai massage and countless feasting sessions....

Now, I have to serioulsy work on shedding those extra kilos.... My equator has expanded !! Damn !!

Will load slides here in the next few days, meantime, I've loaded some on my Facebook....

Its almost like my system kept hanging.....

I was zombie state for the last 2 days....

Now I've only just started packing....

Will be away for 7 days..... to Hua Hin and back to BKK.... our first to BKK for 2009...

I'll stop thinking about work for the next 7 days...

Bye !!!!....

Long Day !!

Guess the build up to another huge compulsory training program, coming up tomorrow... plus me having to do a new adviser training last week followed by the administrative part, has finally eaten into me again... I am now so mentally and emotionally exhausted !!...

Was not sleeping well and eating well since last week....

For a few nights last week, stayed up in office till 10pm or so... When home, I think about the programs under my care, the a couple of ad-hoc ones that I'm suppose to handle.... My brain was going ballistic !!

Under normal situation, its ok, no big deal. But when you are not sleeping well for a few nights, and it snow balled over the days, you efficiency will drop, energy dips and everything else follows...

Moreover, the weekend that past was neither a quiet one too... There were family engagements, colleagues' party invite, ran office errands, settle my boy's boarding arrangements and I brought work home to do..... How to rest well ?

One other thing that kept floating in my mind was the coming trip to BKK and Hua Hin.

BKK is no brainer for me, but Hua Hin is our first.
On Sat, I spoke to Cleo's boss, whom so kindly opened his Hua Hin apartment to us.

I spoke in great lengths and gathered as much info as I can could from him... where to eat, shop, sightsee and so on....

One may have guessed that I have started my packing....but I've not... No time !!!...

So Monday has passed, a 'super make-up class' that I was tasked to handle, came and went.
Tue is the start of a new 12 weeks class, loaded with unusual number of admin challenges. I will be rolling out this combined class on Tue morining.... and after, more admin and coordination work for this batch.
Everything must confirm before I knock off on Tue....

This Mon and Tue is one of the 2 longest days in my work life in ML...

A strange reflection.....

Yesterday while shopping at PS, a strange feeling overwhelmed me....

There I was, it just dawn on me that I was strolling leisurely in the mall....

You might be screaming at me now .... " what's the enlightenment??.. what so big deal ??...."

Well, for over 15 years, when I was in the front line sales, days when 'people' rest and play, it was the time I had to set appointments to meet them, talk to them about financial planning.... I had to meet sales target on 'people's' off day...

For a fleeting moment as I stroll past Mc and Coffee Beans, I could 'see' myself in the past, meeting 'people' for 'tea or coffee', just so I can sell them something..... Just so that I can make a living....

I recalled at times I dragged myself for a appointment, forced a plastic smile and evoked a sense of drama just so I drove home a point....
It was emotionally demanding at times even after 15 years....
I'm only human....

.........when people enjoying and relaxing, I was working.........

For a moment, I realised I was relaxing and not thinking about meeting sales target, doing recruitment, doing coaching with my not very happening team, checking my team for production (what production?...), chasing underwriters for appeals (always come back with problem cases...), chasing clients for late premiums, worrying when Compliance would be auditing my files, attending endless 'management meetings' or having to fix the cranky PC or shredder in the office ....

....I am FREE now !!!

This month would be my 1.5yrs reverting back to employment life.... and I'm very appreciative of the opportunities and kindness colleagues have extended to me so far.... I have a new found meaning in life, a new direction, a new passion towards another phase of my life.....

For someone that's passed 40, to stepped back into the rigid employment environment, having spend 15 years of free spirited 'sole proprietor' life, is no walk in the park.... ( It takes someone in my predicament before to understand...)

There were loads of pressure to perform and to gain acceptance.... You have so many faces to look at, and so many are looking at you as well....
Some wonder how long you can lasts....

I had to shut off my social life for the whole period, just so I know I have no route of escape to hide myself, to run away or to drown my pressures in spirits....

I cut myself off from many close friends, many wondered why I turned 'no picture no sound' for more than a year... Why I changed so suddenly, so drastically.... I could not explain myself than...

I simply enveloped myself in work, forced myself into a corporate mould that I lost touch with for more than a decade...

I almost burned all the bridges of friendship that I invested in the many years before...

I have no choice.... or rather, it was a choice I had to make... I have no time to fool around or to test waters....
I had to survive or sink, period!

Looking back and looking forward.... I am at peace with the decisions I've made so far...
The path ahead now looks a lot brighter than one and half years ago....
I cannot imagine what life would be if I stayed behind....

I am grateful to those that have released me, and even more grateful to the many that have accepted me and given me a chance...

My deepest gratitude and appreciation to all of you.... Thank you very much !!

冲山 National Day Weekend !!!.. Slideshow

冲山 National Day Weekend !!!

Wow !!!!....
It over !!! ....
Fri night BD party at Jap Restaurant, drink sake like tap water and more drink up thereafter in another pub.... Wash out siah !!!

Sat's highlight was not to nurse the hangover, but to 冲山。。。。It was something that we planned that whole week.... To traverse the Southern Ridge from Mt Faber to Hortpark and back...

To me, mentally and physically it was a breeze, but it was Cleo that wanted to do this, in slippers !! She was all hyped up for the track and I'm game for it, just for her !!! She's very seldom 'so onz' about things like that !!

For me, the prep started at 2pm. I had to prep for the picnic, refreshment, snacks, wine and cheese. I was like the mobile 'drinks-curry puff-popiah-drinks Man' from the National Stadium days.... My backpack was full !!

Found a sweet spot on Mt Faber, free parking.... We tracked to the Henderson Wave from there. It was 5.15pm... Good time to do the track, cos many complain too hot and totally exposed to the weather...

Though not our first to the Wave, but was our first during the day. The view was so different and so magnificent !!!...

I was trying hard to spot my office from up there and I finally found it...
Cos everyday in class, I could see it from one of my training room's window.

From the other end of the Wave, we reached the infamous Telok Blangah Green, where the deserted Alkaff Mansion still stands and the site where the poor kid's body(huang na) was dumped.
To our surprise, there are now 3 free carparks, a fitness park and a public toilet there now. Next time can park there....

We revisited our pak-tor ground on top of the hill, the Terrence Garden. Sadly very bad shape now...
Had our first snack there...

(I knew we walked past the possible location where the body was dropped, but I kept it to myself, tried not to spook Cleo.....)

From that summit, we proceeded to the Forest Walk...

It was a series of bridges that hugs the slope of Telok Blangah Green. This slope faces Telok Blangah Heights....and drops to Alexandra Road.

It was very long and winding, very elaborately done and most of all, the gradient of the bridge is very gentle. Prams and wheelchair will have no problem navigating it.

Personally, I love this stretch alot. The view was great, the walk was interesting and technically, I wonder how many people would bother (like me) to think how NParks had constructed this wonderful bridge...and yet preserved the vegetations....

By the time the bridge reaches Alexandra Road, it links to the Arch bridge that spans across to the Hortpark.

Hortpark, our turnaround point was a welcoming sight !!!...

The restaurant name KHA in the main lobby over looks the park. It was about 6.30pm when we reached there, the sun was setting beautifully behind the restaurant, it was simply gorgeous !!!

After freshening up, we sat at the open field of thick carpet grass, soaked in the cool evening breeze, and had our well deserved makan.... many families were playing on the open field too...

It was sooooo sweet a moment !!!!

After our 'dinner', we took a short walk in the Hortpark, short of moving forward to the Kent Ridge Canopy Bridge segment of the Southern Ridge Track....we turn around and headed back to where we came from...

The way back was almost up up up all the way, from ground level up and cross 2 hills, 2 bridges. I estimated we reach our starting point in 1hr 30mins, but we made it less than 1 hr !!!!!

Maybe have eaten and our bags were lighter....

Instead of heading straight back to Mt Faber, we decided to sit on the Wave and enjoy the cool evening.... I almost fell asleep there.....

It was so cool to sit on the wooden paneled bridge, enjoying the breeze, the starlit sky and people watch all at the same time....

By the time we drove off, it was close to 10pm....

Instead of going home, we went for Teochew porridge supper at Cheong Chin Nam St....
That was not enough, we headed to JP2 NTUC 24hrs for some late night shopping....

I bought ingredients for a National Day BKT pig out !!!!....
BKT = Bak Kut Teh....

In conclusion, it was a fantabulous weekend to welcome the National Day !!
I'm proud of Cleo for being so sporty and so game to take the Southern Ridge .... Considering her stamina, she did very well !!!
We had a great time !!

Will post the pictures here in the next entry... stay tuned...

Grass Cutting....

Spotted a new haircut on Fri, our dress-down day when we have no training....

Late Thurs nite, I made a last minute appointment for a cut.... And sure enough, she cut like no tomorrow....

It was a high slope side crop...... leaving enough bush on the top...so to say...

She said it was the same length the last cut but I was sure it wasn't.... But what the hell, it was 'cutted' and so be it...

When I stepped into office on Friday morning, everybody gave me the 'Wow !!!' exclamation !!!...

Then.... "Very short hor...???".... and then.... " What happened ...???"

What you want me to say ??? OMG !!!

So I stick to my script, " My stylist miss cued...."

They all laughed but added on...." but nice cut !!!!"

The last statement is THE MOST IMPORTANT !!! phew....

The best was my HoD's remark in the evening .... " Steve, you look younger and younger?... How come ah?...."

To sum it all....to my relieve, it was well received, even my trainees attending class today also commented kindly about my new hairdo.......

Plastic or not, I took it all in ..... happily...

Shld I wear a mask tmr ??....

After 7 restless days, I'll be heading back to work in about 6 hour's time...

What have I accomplished in the last 7 days one may asked....? Nothing much actually...

Threw away alot of stuff that I have been accumulating over the months... but I've also uncover some stuff that I can use in my class soon...

You win some, loose some...

Thank God both my boys are ok now. Mickey is holding down his food well, not vomiting anymore, JD has stopped coughing and Cleo is her bubbly self again, nose not running anymore...

A note for SIL, try giving Vickey plain yoghurt once or twice a week, a tea-spoon full mixed with her food. Helps strengthen her tummy, helps her digestive system. Provided she is not lactose intolerance. As advised by our friendly vet when we took JD to Animal Clinic that faithful Sat afternoon.

As for me, looking forward to work... Can you believe that ?..
I'm feeling bad already for MIAing for the last 7 days... my guess is my sup had a hard time juggling the programs...
Some of my colleagues would probably think that I've spend a day or 2 at JB or Batam.... Oh how I wish...can verify my passport anytime...

Health wise, can work la.... though I still have blocked nose.... I cannot guarantee anyone's health if they happen to be close by me or if I should sneeze...

Should I wear a mask tmr ??.....

Day 3, 4 & Today.... of House Arrest...

Our weekend was a strange one to say the least....

JD,our younger boy started coughing since Fri nite.... Initially we thought he was choked on food ate earlier or some temporary throat irritations...
But on Sat morning, he kept on coughing even after we took him out of the our room, thinking the air-condition may have cause his throat to be dry... But it persisted and we had to take this little one to the vet...
Vet suggested a few possible reasons, but gave typical cough syrups to relieve him of the coughing...

While JD's condition was under control, Mickey, our bigger boy started to behave strangely...

When we came came from the vet, a patch of 'puke juice' was found in the kitchen floor. Signs that he had vomited...

That nite, after their meals, Mickey practically threw out everything he ate, small portion by small portion..

All in all, he puked about 7 times from Saturday to Sun.... From solid undigested food to gastric juice... it was very disturbing...

Came Sunday, we were prepared to send Mickey to the vet if he still cannot hold down his food.....

Fortunately, the vomiting stopped in Sunday....

We intentionally stopped all food for him till late Sunday evening... just to make sure he system is purged clear...

For dinner, we gave Mickey and JD steamed chicken and broth.... in small portion..

So from evening to about 3am this morning, I had to watch him in case he puke again... And to make sure he don't puke on our bed again...

Well, the great news is.... he is holding down his food well and did not puke since...

All this while, despite the vomiting, Mickey responds well and does not show any signs that his tummy is giving him any problem, he still go about playing with JD and so one.... We are always very proud of this strong boy !!!

As of now, both boys are a ok....

I try not to relate the two incidents, but many would suspect that my possible H1N1 exposure may have jumped to my boys...

Lastly, Cleo is having a slightly runny nose now....

Could it be ???!!....
